Audi is adding two plug-in hybrid variants to its lineup of the 2018 Audi A6, which combine exceptional comfort and economy with strong performance. There are two power levels available for the A6 Avant e-hybrid quattro12 and the A6 Sedan e-hybrid quattro34: 220 kW and 270 kW system output. Compared to its predecessor, the latest generation of high-voltage batteries used in plug-in hybrids has around 45% greater capacity. As a consequence, electric driving can use 25.9 kWh (net 20.7 kWh) of electricity.
By fusing the benefits of a combustion engine with the best of electric driving, the new plug-in hybrid vehicles provide even more economy and versatility. Customers have a choice between the Avant and the Sedan, both of which have a broad track, lengthened hood, and long wheelbase, giving them a strong and impressive appearance. The sweeping curve of the window’s upper edge gives the A6 Sedan e-hybrid quattro an elegant appearance, while the Avant’s more sculpted rear end, flanking aerodynamic panels, and roof edge spoiler give it a dynamic appearance. The broad light strip, high-up Audi rings, and eye-catching rear lights give both models a powerful appearance.
Two power levels are offered for the new Audi A6 Avant e-hybrid quattro and the Audi A6 Sedan e-hybrid quattro. A 2.0 TFSI engine producing 185 kW (252 PS) and an electric motor producing up to 105 kW power the cars. The Avant and Sedan can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.3 seconds when equipped with 270 kW and 500 Nm of torque.24.
The cars can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.0 seconds because of their 220 kW and 450 Nm of torque. The maximum speed for all versions is 250 km/h (155 mph).
The high-voltage battery is at the core of plug-in hybrid technology, and Audi has increased its capacity to 25.9 kWh (net 20.7 kWh), which is around 45% more than its predecessor. Accordingly, both the Avant and the Sedan are capable of traveling over 100 kilometers entirely on electricity. 11 kW is now the maximum AC charging power. It just takes two and a half hours to fully charge the battery if it is entirely depleted.
Additionally, the recovery performance has enhanced. With paddles on the steering wheel, the amount of thrust recovery in electric driving mode (EV mode) may be changed between three levels. In order to get the most of the battery charge before reaching its destination, the new A6 e-hybrid operates on electricity for as long as feasible. When this feature is used, the car automatically recovers energy. The navigation system’s recorded route data serves as the basis for this. Without intelligent route guiding, the new A6 e-hybrid quattro can also recover energy on its own.
The new models’ hybrid management system automatically chooses the best operating strategy since it is built for efficiency, flexibility, and optimum consumer comfort. The system has two operating modes: “EV” and “hybrid.” The plug-in hybrid versions are powered by electricity while in EV mode. The hybrid management system saves adequate electrical energy for later usage by maintaining a certain charge level when in hybrid mode. A digital slider allows the user to independently choose the preferred charge level in addition to the automated hybrid mode.
The electrified dual-clutch gearbox, when paired with the quattro ultra drive and standard all-wheel steering, contributes significantly to the dynamic driving experience by enhancing agility at low speeds and offering even more stability at higher speeds. This, together with better door seals and more firmly sealed windows, improves driving comfort. With up to 30% more sound insulation than the previous model, these steps guarantee even more comfortable in-car acoustics.
In Germany, the A6 Avant e-hybrid quattro starts at 68,300 euros, while the A6 Sedan e-hybrid quattro, with a system output of 220 kW, starts at 65,800 euros. The two top-of-the-line versions come with particularly sporty standard equipment, including wider wheels, sports suspension, interior and exterior S line equipment, and red brake calipers. Prices for the Sedan and Avant start at 75,050 euros and 77,550 euros, respectively, for the higher power level of 270 kW. Beginning on May 8, 2025, the new e-hybrid cars will be available for purchase in Germany. The summer is when the first launch is scheduled to occur.
