With dual 200MP cameras improved by ARRI Image Science, an end-to-end professional cinema workflow, 4K Cinematic LiveVideo, and Snapdragon-powered performance, the new flagship is positioned as a portable cinema system. The introduction of the HONOR Magic9 Pro Max in China was announced by the world’s top AI device ecosystem firm, HONOR. The flagship, which introduces an end-to-end professional cinema workflow co-engineered with ARRI and includes several ARRI Image Science components, is the most recent milestone in HONOR’s Cinematic Imaging Partnership with ARRI. It represents a turning point in the Magic Series’ ten-year development and increases everyday artists’ access to professional movie production.
HONOR Magic9 Pro Max, marketed as a portable cinema system, offers a mobile version of a full professional cinema workflow that includes cinema-grade interaction, recording, image quality, color, sound, LiveVideo, and production equipment. With sensor calibration improved by ARRI Image Science, the ARRI LogC3 Curve, 10-bit color depth, ARRI Wide Gamut 3, and preset ARRI Looks, its dual 200MP camera system, and in-house HONOR Imaging Chip H1 function. Along with a brand-new design influenced by cinema-camera engineering, the Snapdragon® 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 Mobile Platform, MagicOS 11, Cinematic LiveVideo, the Cinematic Directional Microphone, HONOR Teleconverter G200, HONOR Teleconverter G500, and the HONOR SmallRig Mobile Video Kit expand the creative experience.
“The HONOR Magic Series was born for creation, using technology to nurture and empower the creativity within each of us,” said James Li, CEO of HONOR. “With HONOR Magic9 Pro Max, HONOR AI helps turn inspiration into action, supporting creators from ideation and scriptwriting through to editing. Through our Cinematic Imaging Partnership with ARRI, we are integrating the HONOR AIMAGE engine with ARRI’s century of cinematic expertise, helping everyone become the director of their own life.”
A comprehensive imaging experience created by HONOR’s Cinematic Imaging Partnership with ARRI lies at the heart of HONOR Magic9 Pro Max. The workflow, which was co-engineered with ARRI, incorporates specific components of ARRI Image Science for real-time preview, color control, and capture. By combining these features with HONOR’s imaging hardware and processing, professional sound, Cinematic LiveVideo, and modular production tools, the wider mobile workflow produces a more consistent route from the time light enters the sensor to the final graded image.
ARRI Image Science’s improved sensor calibration preserves more useful highlight, shadow, and color information for post-production by utilizing the ARRI LogC3 Curve, 10-bit color depth, and ARRI Wide Gamut 3. The system can record at up to 4K 60 frames per second in ARRI CINEMA Mode, and ARRI Looks is available for real-time preview to assist artists in making more thoughtful color selections on set.
There are 14 preset ARRI looks in the HONOR Magic9 Pro Max, including 12 styled looks and two well-known ARRI conversion looks. With the 87 predefined creative color gradings available in the ARRI Look Library, filmmakers have additional possibilities to mold the tone and esthetic of their video.
The approach is based on ARRI Image Science-enhanced Dual 200MP imaging. In addition to a 200MP Ultra Nite Main Camera with a 1/1.28-inch sensor, f/1.57 aperture, OIS, and 3-degree gimbal-level stabilization, the HONOR Magic9 Pro Max also has a 200MP Ultra Nite Telephoto Camera with a 1/1.4-inch sensor, f/2.6 aperture, and OIS. Both attain stabilization performance of CIPA 8.0. The rear camera system is completed by a 50MP ultra-wide camera with an f/2.0 aperture.
With an energy efficiency of 18.8 TOPS/W, the self-developed HONOR Imaging Chip H1 is based on a 6 nm technology. It takes AI noise reduction into the RAW domain in real time to retain more original picture information when integrated into an imaging pipeline improved by ARRI picture science. According to HONOR test results, the integrated pipeline helps maintain texture, highlight quality, and natural transitions under challenging lighting circumstances by enhancing the signal-to-noise ratio by 8 dB and supporting up to 14 stops of cinematic dynamic range.
With the ability to record at up to 4K 60 frames per second, ARRI CINEMA Mode5 offers producers more options for capturing cinematic moments. Separately, when the user pushes and holds the record button, Cinematic LiveVideo6 records a three-second moving moment. A scene with richer atmosphere and motion may be easily preserved and shared thanks to its compatibility for up to 4K resolution.
The Cinematic Directional Microphone, which uses a four-microphone system for camera recording, and the Stereo Dual 1216 Speakers for monitoring and playback complete the workflow of the HONOR Magic9 Pro Max. Key controls, including resolution, frame rate, shutter, ISO, white balance, focus, lens selection, aspect ratio, stabilization, exposure correction, audio presets, and display mode, are brought into a concentrated interface with ARRI CINEMA Mode.
The HONOR SmallRig Mobile Video Kit, HONOR Teleconverter G200, and HONOR Teleconverter G500 are optional cinema-grade creative equipment that expand the workflow beyond the phone. When combined, they provide artists with a more adaptable, transportable configuration for long-range photography, accessory extension, and handheld operation. 7
In addition to supporting 1:1 capture and variable cropping for group shots, selfies, and vlogs in both vertical and horizontal formats, the 55MP Square-Format Front Camera for portraiture is compatible with a 3D Deep Sensing Camera.
The Magic Series design language has evolved significantly since HONOR Magic3 with the release of HONOR Magic9 Pro Max. The rear camera design reinterprets the traditional 1+2 configuration by arranging the primary, telephoto, and ultra-wide cameras in a logical manner that matches the device’s professional photography function. It was inspired by ARRI’s famous three-lens turret ARRIFLEX cameras from 1937.
In order to lessen unintentional finger hindrance during shooting, the camera module is elevated. Without sacrificing the device’s tiny, light, and ergonomic shape, optimized internal stacking makes room for sophisticated image technology and a sizable battery. The device’s sleek, integrated design is completed by the dual micro-slit antenna design and all-metal unibody enclosure.
The Snapdragon® 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 Mobile Platform powers the HONOR Magic9 Pro Max, offering exceptional performance for gaming, on-device AI, and professional video production.
The gadget has an 8,800 mAh Next-Generation HONOR Silicon-carbon Battery with 100W Wired HONOR SuperCharge and 80W Wireless HONOR SuperCharge for prolonged creation. In order to support consistent connectivity in complicated and crowded network conditions, the third-generation RF Enhanced Chip HONOR C3 employs a seven-chip RF design and intelligent network selection.
The 6.8-inch LTPO OLED display with the HONOR Anti-Scratch NanoCrystal Shield and Anti-Reflective Coating is a highlight of the HONOR Magic9 Pro Max. With a reflectance rate as low as 1.5% and a peak brightness of up to 10,000 nits, its display allows for more regulated monitoring during filming and sharper outdoor viewing. Additionally, the gadget has water and dust resistance ratings of IP68, IP69, and IP69K, which gives creators more confidence outside of the studio.
With a more proactive YOYO experience, MagicOS 11, which is based on Android 17, improves HONOR’s agentic AI vision. YOYO Memory facilitates the collection, organization, and retrieval of valuable material, and its one-touch Video Highlights feature allows users to capture a particularly noteworthy moment in a video and convert it into a shareable live clip. Additionally, MagicOS fulfills cross-brand connections and fulfills file tranfulfillh compatible Windows, iOS, macOS, and Android devices. In order to fulfilll specific multi-step requests, 12 YOYO Tasks may comprehend user intent and organize supporting services.
The four variants of the HONOR Magic9 Pro Max—12GB+256GB, 12GB+512GB, 16GB+512GB, and 16GB+1TB—will be offered in China in Shadow Black, Glacier Silver, and Moss Green. On September 28, official sales will commence at RMB 6,499. We will soon announce regional rollouts in Europe, MEA, SEA, and other important foreign markets.
