In order to provide subsidized access to AI cybersecurity capabilities, training, technical assistance, and partnerships for businesses that safeguard vital services, OpenAI has started a worldwide project supported by a US$1 billion pledge.
Daybreak for Frontline Defenders is a campaign that first targets U.S. water and wastewater utilities, electric grid operators, state and municipal governments, local and community banks, charities, open-source maintainers, and other organizations with minimal cybersecurity capabilities.
Over the following six months, OpenAI anticipates that the $1 billion in subsidized access will be utilized. More than 35 enterprise solutions and partner-run services that incorporate OpenAI’s cyber models into workflows and technologies already utilized by enterprise defenders will be available through the Daybreak Defense Network.
Many of these companies use outdated systems with less funding, less resources, and less.
Compared to major businesses, many of these companies use outdated systems with less budgets, fewer resources, and less specialized knowledge. Daybreak, according to OpenAI, may assist its defenders in reviewing old code, analyzing suspicious activities, identifying vulnerabilities, prioritizing risks, and creating and testing remedies.
In the upcoming weeks, the business plans to extend the service to partner nations.
“OpenAI’s investment is supporting a critical need for elevated defenses to combat the speed and innovation associated with AI-driven attacks,” said Charles Gifford, VP CISO for information security at Intrado, a public safety, emergency communications, and enterprise collaboration company in Longmont, Colo.
“These types of attacks will increasingly target critical infrastructure, as evidenced by recent trends and documented incidents.”
“It’s important to ensure all aspects of critical infrastructure are protected by upskilling security professionals and those responsible for protecting essential systems, especially underfunded and understaffed public services such as 9-1-1 networks and emergency response systems.”
The Multi-State Information Sharing and Analysis Center (MS-ISAC) and OpenAI launched a public sector and water-focused pilot program to teach and assist state, municipal, tribal, and territorial cyber defenders in addition to the Daybreak effort.
In order to enable public sector and water system defenders assess and prioritize results, organize repair, and create a repeatable strategy that can be scaled over time, OpenAI stated the experiment will combine Daybreak access with guided training and practical support.
