The new Audi A5, which is based on Premium Platform Combustion (PPC), is expanding its family. For the first time, Audi is providing two plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) models in two power levels for the A5 series in addition to the versions with pure combustion engines. More comfort and technological advancements for everyday transportation will benefit customers. The capacity of the latest generation of HV batteries is approximately 45% more. An electric range of up to 110 kilometers is made possible by the improved regenerative braking capability.

Audi has started a new chapter in its successful history of producing mid-size automobiles with the new A5 family, which has a new operational philosophy, cutting-edge combustion engine technology, and a more striking design language. The A5 series’ new plug-in hybrid variants provide users even more efficiency and versatility. With immediate effect, Audi is adopting the technological term “e-hybrid” to further distinguish the new PHEVs.

“As part of our model initiative, we are significantly expanding our range of plug-in hybrids in 2025,” says Audi CEO Gernot Döllner. “Outputting up to 270 kilowatts, our new generation of plug-in hybrid models offers a sporty and comfortable driving experience as well as a harmonious balance between performance and efficiency.” Geoffrey Bouquot, Member of the Board of Management for Technical Development at AUDI AG, adds, “The increased electric range of our new plug-in hybrids enables our customers to cover the majority of their daily journeys using only electric power. Our hybrid technology combines the best of both worlds and provides a high degree of flexibility for everyday life. And with the new technology designation ‘e-hybrid,’ this is now also recognizable at first glance.”

There are two power levels available for the new Audi A5 Avant e-hybrid quattro and the Audi A5 Sedan e-hybrid quattro: 220 and 270 kilowatts. A 2.0 TFSI engine producing 185 kW (252 PS) and an electric motor producing up to 105 kW power the cars.

The Avant and Sedan can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (ca. 62 mph mph) in 5.1 seconds when equipped with the 270 kW versions.12. It takes 5.9 seconds for the 220 kW34 variants to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h. The maximum speed for all versions is 250 km/h (ca. 155 mph mph).

Additionally, Audi has greatly improved the performance of regenerative braking, and drivers can now use the steering wheel paddles to control the amount of thrust recovery in EV mode. In essence, the new A5 e-hybrid uses electric power for as long as possible to go to the driver’s destination using the entire amount of battery charge. The car automatically recovers energy when this feature is engaged. The navigation system’s recorded route data serves as the basis for this. Without active route guidance, the new A5 e-hybrid quattro can also recover energy on its own.

The new models’ hybrid management automatically chooses the best operating strategy and is built for efficiency, flexibility, and optimum consumer comfort. There are two types of operation: “EV” and “hybrid.” The PHEV versions only use electricity while in EV mode. To store adequate electrical energy for later use, such as for city driving when driving in hybrid mode, the hybrid management system maintains a certain charge level as needed. For the first time, a digital slider is used to independently adjust the appropriate charge level in addition to the automated hybrid mode.

The PHEV variants have a high degree of standard equipment, much like the rest of the A5 series. The S line exterior package, black design package, and privacy glass are standard on the sporty A5 e-hybrid quattro with the highest power level, giving it a notably dynamic look.

In Germany, the base power output of the A5 Sedan e-hybrid quattro starts at 62,500 euros. Starting at 64,150 euros, the Audi A5 Avant e-hybrid quattro is priced. The more powerful A5 Avant e-hybrid quattro starts at 72,550 euros, while the more powerful sedan with far better standard equipment starts at 70,900 euros. As of March 27, 2025, the new e-hybrid vehicles, which are manufactured in Neckarsulm, are available for purchase in Europe.
