The BMW M5 is entering a new age. With 40 years of existence, the iconic high-performance sedan is entering its seventh generation. For the first time, BMW M GmbH’s executive model has an electric propulsion system. A model-specific version of the M HYBRID system provides the new BMW M5 with a maximum output of 535 kW/727 horsepower and peak system torque of 1,000 Nm (737 lb-ft). The combination of a high-revving V8 engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology and an electric motor, as well as power transfer via an eight-speed M Steptronic gearbox and M xDrive all-wheel drive, enabling acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.5 seconds.

The new BMW M5’s chassis design includes a double-wishbone front axle and a five-link rear axle with custom kinematics and elastokinematics, as well as a number of other carefully tuned components. The electrically assisted rack-and-pinion steering with M Servotronic and variable steering ratio is rigidly connected to the front axle subframe, ensuring excellent road sensation and great directional accuracy. This combination, together with the wide tracks and the exceptional torsional stiffness of the body and chassis mountings, results in the handling characteristics for which BMW M models are known: agility, accuracy, and the linear build-up of lateral forces as the driver pushes on.
