Ghislain Bardout and Emmanuelle Périé-Bardout established the Under The Pole initiative in Concarneau, France, in 2008. The goal of using science and technology to save the environment, especially the seas, is something it shares with PEUGEOT. Additionally, this campaign aims to increase public awareness of the significance of this cause.

In order to continue investigating and safeguarding the seas, Under The Pole is creating the next generation of underwater observation buildings, known as Capsule II, for 2026.

Scientists can stay immersed for up to three days in the current Under The Pole capsule, which is intended to serve as a temporary underwater home. Its portholes, which provide a broad underwater view, make it easier to observe marine life and research the ecological roles of nearby ecosystems.

The Capsule II project aims to address the use restrictions identified by scientists and divers who have worked onboard, despite the fact that the present habitat’s ergonomics maximize available space while offering an effective working environment.

The optimization of the interior of the future structure and the enhancement of the living and working conditions aboard are the responsibilities assigned to PEUGEOT and the Stellantis Design Studio as part of Capsule II.

Under The Pole and PEUGEOT will collaborate to achieve the following goals, utilizing the brand’s designers’ proficiency in the i-Cockpit:

Under The Pole and PEUGEOT will collaborate to achieve the following goals, utilizing the brand’s designers’ proficiency in the i-Cockpit:

  • Equipment and outdoor areas are optimized for user-friendliness.
Improved performance through increased onboard well-being with a revised ergonomic interior design that includes modified living areas suited to the purposes and requirements of different exploratory missions
  • Suggestions for better, more hospitable, and long-lasting materials
  • A fresh layout and incorporation of technology components for communication systems (screens, connection)
