Audi Sport is setting a new record by offering LMP and DTM prototypes from the previous factory racing programs for sale as special items in driveable condition for the first time ever. The recently established Audi Sport racing legends project team is developing these intriguing prototypes using manufacturing knowledge for a small group of collectors. Audi Sport will exhibit in three international classic vehicle events in Germany, France, and the United Kingdom after the program presentation on April 2 in Neuburg an der Donau. In the middle of the year, the first sample is to be turned over.
Audi Sport turns dreams into reality: Fans of prototypes from the brand’s early factory programs may now have their particular wishes granted under the four rings. They become owners and participate in one of Audi Sport’s most successful eras by purchasing an original chassis. “We are rebuilding these chassis together with reconditioned parts from that time into racing cars according to strict standards and with a high level of expertise,” explains Rolf Michl, Audi Sport GmbH’s Managing Director. “In certain circumstances, former developers are still participating in current initiatives. The Audi R18 e-tron quattro and the RS 5 DTM are two of the most powerful racing vehicles ever constructed.
Customers may expect not just very desirable racing vehicles but also a spectacular exhibition of driving emotions. Our customers join a select group, benefit from our motorsport knowledge, and receive thorough assistance.” Audi has won Le Mans and DTM championships using these sorts of racing vehicles. The winning specimens from this era remain in AUDI AG’s car collection, where Audi Tradition looks after them, keeps them functioning, and uses them at events.
On April 2, potential consumers had the opportunity to see the first two models in Neuburg an der Donau. At an emotional ceremony for chosen enthusiasts, the company exhibited two vehicles from the golden eras: chassis 107 of the RS 5 DTM and chassis 207 of the Audi R18 e-tron quattro. In 2012, Romain Dumas, Loïc Duval, and Marc Gené won the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) in Spa-Francorchamps with the R18 chassis. The DTM chassis is also a winner, having prevailed with Timo Scheider at the 2015 DTM finale in Hockenheim.

The unveiling at the Audi Sport racing legends headquarters marks the beginning of the sales period for these rare items. The new project group will thereafter expose itself to a specialized audience from May 9 to 11 at the Jim Clark Revival in Hockenheim (Germany), July 3 to 6 at the Le Mans Classic (France), and July 10 to 13 at the Festival of Speed in Goodwood (United Kingdom).
The first automobile is scheduled to be sold and delivered to its new owner this summer. This does not mark the end of the Audi Sport service. Rather, the handover signals the beginning of full support: regular technical checks, repairs, a spare parts service, and professional guidance from former developers round out the appealing variety of services supplied by Audi Sport racing veterans. Audi Sport provides assistance during the competitions.
