The goal of BMW iDrive is to provide a distinctive user experience through the smooth integration of displays, controls, and car software.

The user-friendly operating system and display included in every BMW is called BMW iDrive. It is the interface between the driver and the car, and it functions by means of creative hardware and software cooperation. BMW iDrive responds to speech, tauch, or other control components to do everything from find your location to choose your favorite music or change the air conditioning. More than just a traditional operating and display paradigm, it is increasingly often used to refer to the incorporation of third-party apps and digital services.

THE STORY OF BMW iDRIVE

2001.

The BMW Group established industry standards in 2001 with the introduction of the first BMW iDrive in its most recent BMW 7 Series.
Because there were fewer buttons on the dashboard, the center console’s push-and-turn dial was used to manage features like the entertainment and navigation system.
The BMW 7 Series also included voice control for several features.

2003.

Transfer of technology from aviation: The first Head-Up Display was introduced in the new BMW 5 Series in 2003.
Information was projected directly into the driver’s field of vision onto the windscreen.

2008.

The initial move toward intelligent vehicle connection was taken by the BMW Group, which was the first automaker in the world to provide unfettered access to the World Wide Web in its cars.
Users were able to install third-party apps starting in 2012.

2015.

For the first time, touch controls were incorporated.

2018.

The BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, which may be operated by voice command, was made possible by the BMW Operating System 7.0.
Over-the-air remote software upgrades were introduced.

2021.

The BMW Operating System 8 made the automobile a mobile component of the online world.
Users might have a customized driving experience with the new BMW ID, which would allow them to safely save their personal preferences and move them between vehicles if they so want.
