Charlestown, Virginia— The U.S. Marine Corps’ dedication to providing smooth, safe, and reliable communications for tactical operations was furthered when Nokia revealed that it had delivered its Banshee tactical private wireless solutions to the Marine Corps Tactical Systems Support Activity (MCTSSA). This accomplishment expands on years of work between the Marine Corps and Nokia to test and improve next-generation communication capabilities to meet vital operational requirements.
During a two-day proof-of-concept at Marine Corps Air Station Yuma in 2023, Nokia and the Marine Corps confirmed that Banshee could provide secure, high-capacity tactical communications that went above and beyond expectations. During Project Convergence that year, Nokia and MCTSSA collaborated to demonstrate Banshee’s efficacy in denied, disrupted, intermittent, and restricted (DDIL) situations. Its function in providing robust, fast connection throughout joint warfighting networks was reaffirmed by these experiments.
In response to these conclusions, MCTSSA purchased several Banshee units in early 2025 for additional assessment and incorporation into Marine Corps drills. Nokia gave MCTSSA and other Marine Corps units practical training on private wireless network operations, setup, debugging, and live demonstrations of Banshee’s capabilities in order to facilitate a smooth deployment.
“Banshee is a game-changer for the warfighter, providing the Marine Corps with a powerful, scalable private wireless solution that meets the demand of modern warfare. We are honored to support MCTSSA and the Marine Corps as they modernize battlefield connectivity while enhancing operational efficiency and resilience,” said Scott Ferguson, Chief Revenue Officer, Nokia Federal Solutions.
“High bandwidth, low latency transport is critical for sensor-to-shooter integration, enabling real-time data flow from sensors to weapon systems. This ensures precise, timely strikes, maintaining battlefield advantage. Even slight delays can jeopardize missions, making robust connectivity a strategic necessity for lethality and adaptability in modern warfare,” said Capt. Eric Perez, MCTSSA Cyber Network Operation Officer.
For quick deployment in difficult situations, the Nokia Banshee series offers a secure, long-range, and fast tactical communication solution. It is an affordable, commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) system that uses industry research and development expenditures to offer a scalable substitute for conventional Marine Corps communications. In line with MCTSSA’s goal of upgrading battlefield communications, Banshee guarantees dependable, mission-critical connectivity while drastically cutting costs because of its lightweight, user-friendly design and cutting-edge security.
