Lepenski vir is one of the archaeological sites located on the territory of the Republic of Serbia. It is located on the right bank of the Danube in the Đerdap gorge
It got its name from the Danube River. It was the center of prehistoric cultures. During the excavations, seven settlements and 136 buildings were uncovered, built in the Mesolithic period from 9500 to 7200 BC.
Neolithic revolution
Around 5300 BC. the Neolithic revolution occurred ,when the beginning of the boreal is marked,.When the water level falls, the formation of river flows occurs, as well as the formation of humus. In that period, the inhabitants of Lepenski vir were engaged in farming and raising animals. The youngest phase of Lepenski Vir belongs to the Starčevo culture.
